Who is Billie Eilish
Billie Eilish Pirate Baird O'Connell (born December 18, 2001, in Los Angeles) is one of the defining pop artists of the 2020s. Her sound is built on hushed, close-mic vocals, layered harmonies and dark, minimalist production, and she writes and records almost all of her music with her older brother, Finneas O'Connell, who also produces her records.
Eilish is a two-time Academy Award winner, for "No Time to Die" and "What Was I Made For?," and a two-time Golden Globe winner. She has won ten Grammy Awards, including Song of the Year three times. In 2020 she became the youngest artist, and only the second ever, to win all four general-field Grammys, Album, Record and Song of the Year and Best New Artist, in a single night.

Childhood in Los Angeles
Eilish was born to Maggie Baird, an actress, screenwriter and music teacher, and Patrick O'Connell, an actor. Her first name honors her maternal grandfather, William Baird, who died shortly before she was born. Her parents chose "Eilish" after seeing a documentary, and her middle names are "Pirate" and "Baird," her mother's surname. She grew up in the Highland Park neighborhood of Los Angeles, in the small house where she and Finneas still recorded much of their music years later.
Billie and Finneas were homeschooled by their mother, who also taught them the basics of songwriting. Billie began playing the ukulele at six, joined the Los Angeles Children's Chorus at eight and wrote her first real song at eleven. She also trained as a dancer, until a growth plate injury ended that path in her early teens. She has spoken publicly about living with Tourette syndrome and about depression in her teenage years.
"Ocean Eyes" and Debut (2015–2018)
In 2015, aged 13, she uploaded "Ocean Eyes," a song Finneas had written for his band, to SoundCloud so her dance teacher could choreograph a routine to it. The track spread quickly online and led to a deal with Darkroom and Interscope Records in 2016. Her debut EP, "Don't Smile at Me" (2017), with "Bellyache," "Idontwannabeyouanymore" and "Lovely" with Khalid, built a large young audience and was certified multi-platinum.

"When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go?" (2019)
Her first full-length album, released on March 29, 2019, debuted at No. 1 in the US and the UK and was one of the best-selling albums of the year. "Bad Guy" reached No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100, ending the record 19-week run of Lil Nas X's "Old Town Road," and made her the first artist born in the 21st century to top the chart. At the 2020 Grammys she won Album, Record and Song of the Year, Best New Artist and Best Pop Vocal Album, becoming the youngest winner of Album of the Year at the time.
"Happier Than Ever" and Two Oscars (2020–2024)
In 2020 she and Finneas wrote "No Time to Die," the theme for the 25th James Bond film; she became the youngest artist to write and record a Bond theme. The song won a Grammy, a Golden Globe and, in March 2022, the Oscar for Best Original Song. "Everything I Wanted" won Record of the Year in 2021. Her second album, "Happier Than Ever" (2021), debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200; its title track, with its slow-building rock finale, became a fan favorite, and "Therefore I Am," "My Future" and "Your Power" reached the US top ten.
In 2023 she made her acting debut in the Amazon Prime Video series "Swarm" and wrote "What Was I Made For?" for Greta Gerwig's "Barbie." The song won the Oscar for Best Original Song in March 2024, along with a Golden Globe and two Grammys, including Song of the Year, making Eilish the youngest person to win two Academy Awards.

"Hit Me Hard and Soft" (2024–2026)
Her third album, "Hit Me Hard and Soft," was released on May 17, 2024, to strong reviews. "Lunch," "Chihiro" and especially "Birds of a Feather" became major hits; "Birds of a Feather" topped the Billboard Global 200 and was one of the most-streamed songs in the world in 2024. On August 11, 2024, she performed it at the Paris Olympics closing ceremony in a live segment from Long Beach, California, marking the handover to the 2028 Los Angeles Games.
At the 68th Grammys on February 1, 2026, "Wildflower" won Song of the Year, her tenth Grammy and her third win in the category with Finneas. In her acceptance speech she criticized US immigration enforcement, saying "No one is illegal on stolen land."
Billie Eilish Tour
"Hit Me Hard and Soft: The Tour" ran from September 2024 to November 2025, with 106 concerts across North America, Oceania, Europe and Asia, played in the round on a central stage. Her parents traveled with the tour, and the production continued her long-running climate initiatives with the nonprofit Reverb. Earlier tours include "Where Do We Go? World Tour" (2020, cut short by the pandemic) and "Happier Than Ever, The World Tour" (2022–2023).
Billie Eilish Movie
"Billie Eilish – Hit Me Hard and Soft: The Tour (Live in 3D)," a concert film she co-directed with James Cameron and distributed by Paramount, was originally scheduled for March 2026 and moved to May 8, 2026, so Cameron could refine new 3D technology. It recorded the best opening for a concert film in three years. Earlier she appeared in two documentaries: "Billie Eilish: The World's a Little Blurry" (Apple TV+, 2021) and the concert film "Happier Than Ever: A Love Letter to Los Angeles" (Disney+, 2021).

Billie Eilish Perfume
Eilish's fragrance line, developed with Parlux, began with "Eilish" in November 2021, a warm vanilla and amber scent in a bottle shaped like a woman's upper body. "Eilish No. 2" followed in 2022 and the limited-edition "Eilish No. 3" in 2023. On February 6, 2025, she launched "Your Turn," a woody, fresh eau de parfum in a dice-shaped bottle with notes of ginger, cardamom, peach, jasmine and sandalwood, priced at $90. With that launch the line was renamed Billie Eilish Fragrances. The perfumes are sold through the brand's own website and at Ulta Beauty and other retailers.

Working With Finneas
Finneas O'Connell, born in 1997, is central to almost everything Eilish has released. He co-writes the songs, produces and engineers the recordings and plays many of the instruments, and he tours with her as a musician. Their partnership grew out of home-schooling, family songwriting sessions and a shared love of film scores. The siblings share both of her Oscars and most of her Grammys, and Finneas has also won Grammys as a producer in his own right, including Producer of the Year, Non-Classical, in 2020. He releases his own music as a solo artist and has written and produced for other performers. Eilish has often said that the closeness of the partnership lets her write about very personal subjects, from depression to heartbreak and desire, without feeling exposed.
Style and Image
In her early career Eilish was known for oversized streetwear, neon-green and black hair and designer logos worn in a deliberately baggy way. In 2021 she changed her look for a British Vogue cover inspired by old Hollywood pin-ups, and she has since moved between both styles. Her merchandise and collaborations with brands such as Nike have sold out repeatedly, and her approach to fashion has been widely discussed as a statement about control over her own image.
Personal Life, Influences and Views
Eilish cites The Beatles as a major inspiration and grew up listening to Green Day, Lana Del Rey, Linkin Park and Justin Bieber, as well as hip-hop. She has been vegan for years and campaigns on climate change, reproductive rights and animal welfare. She has largely kept her relationships private; she dated the musician Jesse Rutherford in 2022 and 2023. She has spoken about body image and about the oversized clothes she wore as a teenager to avoid comments on her body. Her Instagram account, @billieeilish, is one of the most-followed of any musician and is her main channel for announcements. She is commonly reported to be about 5 feet 3 inches (161 cm) tall.
