Brad Pitt (born December 18, 1963) is an American actor and producer, a two-time Academy Award winner for Once Upon a Time in Hollywood and 12 Years a Slave, and the star of Fight Club, Troy and F1. This profile covers his biography, full list of key movies, awards, Plan B Entertainment, marriages, children and his latest projects as of October 2026.

Age

Brad Pitt was born on December 18, 1963 and is 62 years old.

Who is Brad Pitt

William Bradley Pitt was born in Shawnee, Oklahoma, and became one of the defining screen actors of his generation. He has won two Oscars, two BAFTA Awards, two Golden Globes and a Primetime Emmy, the last as an executive producer of HBO's The Normal Heart. Few Hollywood stars have balanced leading-man commercial power with a producing career as consistently: his company, Plan B Entertainment, has backed three Best Picture nominees and one winner.

Pitt rose to fame in the early 1990s with Thelma & Louise, A River Runs Through It and Interview with the Vampire, then delivered a run of era-defining performances in Seven, 12 Monkeys and Fight Club. He later anchored blockbusters such as Ocean's Eleven, Troy, Mr. & Mrs. Smith and World War Z, and won his acting Oscar for Once Upon a Time in Hollywood (2019). In 2025 the racing drama F1 became the highest-grossing film of his career.

Young Brad Pitt: childhood in Missouri

Pitt was born in Oklahoma to William Alvin Pitt, who ran a trucking company, and Jane Etta Pitt, a school counselor. The family soon moved to Springfield, Missouri, where he grew up with his younger brother, Doug, and younger sister, Julie, in a conservative Southern Baptist household. At Kickapoo High School he played golf, swam and played tennis, joined the debate club and took part in school musicals.

In 1982 he enrolled at the University of Missouri to study journalism with a focus on advertising. With only a couple of weeks left before graduation, he left college and drove to Los Angeles. There he took acting lessons and supported himself with odd jobs while chasing small television parts in the late 1980s.

Path to stardom (1987–2000)

After guest roles on television and minor film parts, Pitt broke through as the charming hitchhiker J.D. in Ridley Scott's Thelma & Louise (1991). Robert Redford then cast him in A River Runs Through It (1992), and leading roles followed in Kalifornia (1993), Legends of the Fall (1994) and Interview with the Vampire (1994), opposite Tom Cruise.

1995 was the year that made him a serious actor in the eyes of critics. David Fincher's thriller Seven, with Morgan Freeman, became a major hit, and Terry Gilliam's 12 Monkeys earned him a Golden Globe and his first Oscar nomination for playing the unhinged Jeffrey Goines. After Sleepers (1996), Seven Years in Tibet (1997) and Meet Joe Black (1998), he reunited with Fincher for Fight Club (1999).

Brad Pitt in Fight Club

In Fight Club, adapted from Chuck Palahniuk's novel, Pitt played Tyler Durden, the anarchic soap salesman who pulls Edward Norton's unnamed narrator into an underground world of bare-knuckle fights and anti-consumerist sabotage. The film divided critics and underperformed in cinemas in 1999, but it found an enormous audience on home video and is now regarded as one of the key American films of the decade. Tyler Durden remains Pitt's most quoted and most imitated role, and the physique he built for it is still one of the most searched images associated with him. A year later he played the fast-talking Irish traveller Mickey O'Neil in Guy Ritchie's crime comedy Snatch (2000).

Blockbusters and recognition (2001–2018)

Steven Soderbergh's heist remake Ocean's Eleven (2001), with George Clooney and Matt Damon, launched a trilogy completed by Ocean's Twelve (2004) and Ocean's Thirteen (2007). Pitt played Achilles in Wolfgang Petersen's epic Troy (2004) and starred opposite Angelina Jolie in the action comedy Mr. & Mrs. Smith (2005), one of the biggest hits of his career up to that point.

He then alternated star vehicles with more demanding work: Alejandro González Iñárritu's Babel (2006), The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford (2007), the Coen brothers' Burn After Reading (2008) and Fincher's The Curious Case of Benjamin Button (2008), which brought his second acting Oscar nomination. In Quentin Tarantino's Inglourious Basterds (2009) he played Lt. Aldo Raine, and in 2011 he earned a third acting nomination for Moneyball, as Oakland Athletics general manager Billy Beane, while also appearing in Terrence Malick's Palme d'Or winner The Tree of Life.

The zombie thriller World War Z (2013), which Plan B produced, became one of his largest commercial successes. He led the World War II tank drama Fury (2014) for director David Ayer, co-starred in The Big Short (2015) and Allied (2016), and starred in the Netflix satire War Machine (2017).

Plan B Entertainment

Pitt founded Plan B Entertainment in 2001, and since the mid-2000s it has been run with producers Dede Gardner and Jeremy Kleiner. The company's track record is unusually strong for an actor-led banner. Plan B produced Martin Scorsese's The Departed (2006), which won Best Picture, although Pitt was not among the credited producers who received Oscars that night. As a credited producer he won the Academy Award for Best Picture for Steve McQueen's 12 Years a Slave (2013), and he was nominated in the same category for Moneyball and The Big Short. The company also backed Selma, Moonlight and Minari, and Pitt was an executive producer of the Emmy-winning HBO film The Normal Heart (2014).

Oscar win and F1 (2019–2025)

In 2019 Pitt played stuntman Cliff Booth alongside Leonardo DiCaprio in Tarantino's Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. The role brought him a clean sweep of the season's major prizes: the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor, the Golden Globe, the BAFTA and the Screen Actors Guild Award. The same year he starred in James Gray's space drama Ad Astra. He followed with the action comedy Bullet Train (2022), Damien Chazelle's Babylon (2022) and the Apple comedy Wolfs (2024), reuniting with George Clooney.

In June 2025 Apple and Warner Bros. released F1, directed by Joseph Kosinski and produced with seven-time Formula One world champion Lewis Hamilton. Pitt played Sonny Hayes, a veteran driver lured back to the grid. The film opened at the top of the North American box office with $55.6 million, the biggest opening Apple had ever had, and finished its run with about $631 million worldwide. Variety described it as the biggest box office hit of Pitt's career (unadjusted for inflation), and it was among the ten highest-grossing films of 2025. It arrived on Apple TV in December 2025.

Brad Pitt new movie: Heart of the Beast and Cliff Booth (2026)

Pitt has two new films in autumn 2026. Heart of the Beast, a survival drama directed by David Ayer, reunites the pair a decade after Fury. Pitt plays a former special forces soldier stranded in the Alaskan wilderness after a plane crash, with only his retired military dog for company. Paramount released it in theaters on September 25, 2026, after a festival screening at San Sebastián, and reviews in Variety and The Hollywood Reporter praised his performance.

The second is The Further Mis-Adventures of Cliff Booth, a Netflix film directed by David Fincher from a new screenplay by Quentin Tarantino. Pitt returns to his Oscar-winning role, with the story moved to 1977 Hollywood, where Booth now works as a fixer. According to Deadline, the film opens in IMAX on November 25, 2026, for a two-week engagement and streams on Netflix from December 23, 2026. It is Pitt's fourth collaboration with Fincher after Seven, Fight Club and Benjamin Button.

Business and charity

In 2006 Pitt helped set up the Make It Right Foundation to build affordable, energy-efficient homes in New Orleans' Lower Ninth Ward after Hurricane Katrina. The project built more than 100 homes, but it later faced lawsuits from residents over construction defects. With Jolie he also co-founded the Jolie-Pitt Foundation, which supported humanitarian causes in Cambodia, Ethiopia and elsewhere.

Pitt has long been associated with Château Miraval in Provence, France, the estate he and Jolie bought in 2008. Its rosé wine became a commercial success, and in 2022 the historic Miraval Studios, where Pink Floyd, AC/DC and The Cranberries once recorded, reopened under his involvement with French producer Damien Quintard. Ownership of Miraval has been the subject of long-running litigation with Jolie, who sold her stake to the Stoli group of Yuri Shefler.

Brad Pitt wife and relationships

Pitt has been married twice. He married actress Jennifer Aniston, then the star of Friends, on July 29, 2000, in Malibu; they announced their separation in January 2005, and the divorce was finalized later that year. Earlier in his career he was engaged to actress Gwyneth Paltrow and had a long relationship with Juliette Lewis.

He met Angelina Jolie on the set of Mr. & Mrs. Smith. The couple, widely known as "Brangelina," were together for about 12 years and married on August 23, 2014, at Château Miraval. Jolie filed for divorce on September 19, 2016. A judge declared them legally single in April 2019, but the financial and custody issues took much longer: a final divorce settlement was signed on December 30, 2024, after an eight-year legal battle, as reported by Reuters and the BBC. The dispute over Miraval continued separately.

Since 2022 Pitt has been in a relationship with jewelry executive Ines de Ramon. People magazine has reported that the couple live together, and they appeared together at the premiere of F1 in 2025.

Brad Pitt children

Pitt has six children with Angelina Jolie. Three were adopted: Maddox (born in Cambodia in 2001), Zahara (born in Ethiopia in 2005) and Pax (born in Vietnam in 2003). Jolie first adopted the three on her own, and Pitt later became their legal adoptive father. Their biological children are Shiloh, born in Namibia in May 2006, and the twins Knox and Vivienne, born in Nice, France, in July 2008. Several of the children have publicly dropped or stopped using the Pitt surname in recent years.
