How to delete your account and data
You can delete your account yourself at any time, on the website or in the app. If you can no longer sign in, send us a request through the contact form.
Delete it yourself
- Sign in and open Account → Privacy → Delete account.
- Choose what happens to your published articles: keep them under the newsroom's name, or delete them together with the account.
- Confirm with your password. If you created the account with Google, Facebook or Apple and have no password, type the word “DELETE”.
- The account is deleted immediately and you are signed out on every device.
If you cannot sign in
Use the contact form, choose “Privacy or data request”, and give the email address you registered with. Once we have confirmed that the address is yours, we delete the account and reply within 30 days (usually within a few days).
What is deleted
- Your account and profile: name, email address, photos, bio, links and settings.
- Your wall and all posts on it, likes, follows, notifications and sign-in sessions.
- The link to your Google, Facebook or Apple account.
- Your membership – its renewal is stopped.
What stays, and for how long
- Comments stay in the discussions so the threads still make sense, but without your name or account – they show as “Deleted member”. If you want the text deleted too, delete your comments before deleting the account, or ask us.
- Published articles – as you chose: kept under the newsroom's name, or deleted.
- Order and payment records are kept separately from the account for as long as accounting and tax rules require.
- Backups – deleted data stays in them for up to 30 days, until they are automatically replaced.
- Moderation records about violations are kept as long as needed to settle disputes.
Only disconnect Google, Facebook or Apple
To delete only the sign-in data received from one of these accounts (identifier, name and email address): Account → Security → Connected accounts → “Disconnect”. If it is your only way to sign in, set a password first.
Through Facebook: Settings & privacy → Settings → Apps and websites → select the app → Remove. Facebook notifies us, the link is deleted automatically, and you get a confirmation code whose status you can check on this page.
