Her parents divorced in 1991, and her mother married the Olympic decathlon champion Bruce Jenner, now Caitlyn Jenner, the same year. Kim's half-sisters Kendall and Kylie Jenner were born in 1995 and 1997, and she gained stepsiblings including Brody and Brandon Jenner.
Her father became nationally known in 1994 and 1995 as a member of O.J. Simpson's defense team during his murder trial. Robert Kardashian died of esophageal cancer in 2003. Kim attended Marymount High School, a Catholic girls' school in Los Angeles. As a young woman she was friends with Paris Hilton and Nicole Richie and worked as Hilton's stylist and closet organizer, which brought her first appearances on Hilton's reality show "The Simple Life."
Reality Television and Fame (2007–2021)
In October 2007 E! premiered "Keeping Up with the Kardashians," a reality series about the Kardashian-Jenner family produced with Ryan Seacrest. It became one of the network's most successful programs, ran until June 2021 and spawned spin-offs including "Kourtney and Kim Take Miami," "Kourtney and Kim Take New York" and "Khloé & Lamar." In 2008 Kardashian made her film debut in "Disaster Movie" and competed in season 7 of "Dancing with the Stars."

In the early years she and her sisters ran the boutique chain Dash, released fragrances and licensed their name to clothing and beauty lines. Her 2014 mobile game "Kim Kardashian: Hollywood" was a major commercial hit, and her 2015 book of selfies, "Selfish," reflected her status as one of the defining personalities of the social media era.
Skims and Other Businesses (2017–2026)
In 2017 Kardashian launched KKW Beauty and KKW Fragrance. In 2020 the beauty company Coty bought a 20% stake in KKW Beauty in a deal that valued the brand at $1 billion. She closed the KKW brands in 2022 and launched the skincare line SKKN by Kim.
Her biggest venture is Skims, the shapewear, loungewear and underwear brand she co-founded with Jens Grede in 2019. Skims became an official outfitter of Team USA at the Olympics, opened its first permanent stores and partnered with Nike on the activewear line NikeSkims, launched in 2025. In November 2025 the company raised $225 million in a round led by Goldman Sachs Alternatives, valuing it at $5 billion, and said it was on track to pass $1 billion in annual net sales.

The Kardashians and Acting Roles
In April 2022 Hulu premiered the family's new series, "The Kardashians," which continued into 2026. Kardashian has increasingly taken on acting work. She voiced the poodle Delores in "PAW Patrol: The Movie" (2021) and "PAW Patrol: The Mighty Movie" (2023), hosted "Saturday Night Live" in October 2021, and played publicist Siobhan Corbyn in "American Horror Story: Delicate" (2023–2024).
In 2025 she starred as divorce lawyer Allura Grant in Ryan Murphy's legal drama "All's Fair" on Hulu, opposite Naomi Watts, Glenn Close and Niecy Nash-Betts. Critics were harsh, but the show became Hulu's biggest scripted premiere in three years, and Hulu renewed it for a second season in November 2025. Production of season 2 was scheduled to begin in spring 2026.

Law Studies and Criminal Justice Reform
Kardashian's advocacy began in 2018, when she lobbied the White House on behalf of Alice Marie Johnson, a grandmother serving a life sentence for a nonviolent drug offense; President Donald Trump commuted Johnson's sentence that June. She has since supported clemency and resentencing efforts for other prisoners, and the 2020 documentary "Kim Kardashian West: The Justice Project" followed that work.
Instead of attending law school, she chose California's Law Office Study Program, an apprenticeship under practicing attorneys. She passed the First-Year Law Students' Examination, known as the "baby bar," in December 2021 after several attempts. She completed the program in 2025 and sat the California bar exam in July 2025, but announced in November 2025 that she had not passed, adding that she had come close and planned to try again.
Kardashian is proud of her Armenian heritage and has repeatedly called for international recognition of the Armenian genocide. In 2019 she visited Armenia with her sister Khloé and had her children North and Chicago baptized at Etchmiadzin Cathedral.

The Kardashian-Jenner Family
Kim's family is central to her public life and to the family brand built around it. Her mother, Kris Jenner, has managed the careers of all her children through her company Jenner Communications and serves as executive producer of the family's shows. Kourtney Kardashian runs the lifestyle brand Poosh and is married to the Blink-182 drummer Travis Barker. Khloé Kardashian co-founded the denim label Good American. Rob Kardashian launched a sock line and has largely stepped away from television. Kendall Jenner is one of the world's best-paid fashion models, and Kylie Jenner founded Kylie Cosmetics. Caitlyn Jenner, Kim's former stepparent, remains part of the extended family story. Together the family has turned its reality TV fame into a portfolio of businesses spanning beauty, fashion, spirits and media, with Kim's Skims the largest of them.
Social Media and Influence
Kardashian was among the first celebrities to treat social media as a business channel rather than a publicity tool. Her Instagram account has hundreds of millions of followers, and a single post can sell out a product line within hours. That reach has also drawn scrutiny: in 2022 the US Securities and Exchange Commission charged her with failing to disclose that she was paid to promote a crypto token, and she agreed to pay $1.26 million to settle the charges without admitting or denying the findings. Her 2022 Met Gala appearance in a dress worn by Marilyn Monroe drew criticism from fashion conservators.
Husbands and Relationships
Kardashian has been married three times. She married music producer Damon Thomas in 2000; they divorced in 2004. She married NBA player Kris Humphries on August 20, 2011, in a televised wedding, and filed for divorce 72 days later. On May 24, 2014, she married rapper Kanye West, now known as Ye, at the Forte di Belvedere in Florence, Italy. She filed for divorce in February 2021, and it was finalized in November 2022. Between 2021 and 2022 she dated comedian Pete Davidson.
Kim Kardashian and Lewis Hamilton
In early 2026 Kardashian was first reported to be dating seven-time Formula 1 world champion Lewis Hamilton, after the two were seen together in the English Cotswolds. In February 2026 they made their first public appearance together, sitting side by side at the Super Bowl at Levi's Stadium in California, and later appeared together at Coachella and in Tokyo. Kardashian shared photos of the couple on her Instagram, and she cheered Hamilton on from the stands at the 2026 Monaco Grand Prix. Hamilton, who has driven for Ferrari since 2025, has declined to discuss the relationship, calling it his private life. The two have known each other since around 2014.
Kids
Kardashian has four children with Kanye West: daughter North West, born in June 2013; son Saint West, born in December 2015; daughter Chicago West, born via surrogate in January 2018; and son Psalm West, born via surrogate in May 2019. She has spoken openly about the pregnancy complications, including placenta accreta, that led the couple to use a surrogate for their younger children. North has appeared in several of her mother's projects and on "The Kardashians."
Kim Kardashian House
Kardashian's main family home is the minimalist mansion in Hidden Hills, California, that she and West renovated with the Belgian designer Axel Vervoordt and the architect Vincenzo De Cotiis. Its neutral, almost monastic interiors became famous through her social media posts and video tours. After the divorce she kept the Hidden Hills house, and in 2021 she also bought a beachfront property in Malibu.
Paris Robbery
On October 3, 2016, during Paris Fashion Week, armed men disguised as police officers tied her up in her hotel residence and stole jewelry worth millions of dollars, including her engagement ring. The trial of the suspects took place in Paris in 2025; Kardashian testified in court in May 2025, and several defendants were convicted.
