Who is Taylor Swift
Taylor Alison Swift (born December 13, 1989, in West Reading, Pennsylvania) is one of the most influential figures in modern pop culture. She is known for autobiographical songwriting and for repeated musical reinvention: from country to pop, indie folk and soft rock. She is one of the best-selling music artists of all time and, after the Eras Tour, the highest-grossing touring artist of the streaming era.
Her Eras Tour (2023–2024) became the first tour to gross more than $1 billion and finished as the highest-grossing concert tour ever. She holds 14 Grammy Awards, including a record four for Album of the Year, and in 2023 Time magazine named her Person of the Year, the first time the title went to someone honored for achievements in the arts alone.

Childhood and the Road to Nashville
Swift was born in Pennsylvania and spent her early childhood on a Christmas tree farm her father owned. Her father, Scott Swift, worked as a stockbroker at Merrill Lynch, and her mother, Andrea Swift, worked in mutual fund marketing before becoming a homemaker and, later, a constant presence in her daughter's career. She was named after the singer-songwriter James Taylor. Her younger brother, Austin Swift, is an actor and producer. Her grandmother, Marjorie Finlay, was a professional opera singer, a figure Taylor later honored with the song "Marjorie" on the 2020 album "Evermore."
As a child Swift performed in local musical theater, but after discovering the country music of Shania Twain, Faith Hill and the Dixie Chicks she set her sights on Nashville. At eleven she and her mother visited Nashville record labels with a demo of karaoke covers and were turned down, which pushed her to write her own songs. She learned to play guitar at twelve, and when she was 14 her family moved to Hendersonville, Tennessee, so she could pursue a career in country music. She became the youngest staff songwriter ever hired by Sony/ATV Tree publishing house.
Country Star (2005–2012)
In 2005 Swift signed with Scott Borchetta's new label, Big Machine Records. Her debut single "Tim McGraw" (2006) was followed by the album "Taylor Swift" (2006), which spent years on the Billboard 200. "Fearless" (2008) made her a crossover phenomenon: "Love Story" and "You Belong with Me" became hits on both country and pop radio, and the album won the Grammy for Album of the Year in 2010, making her, at 20, the youngest winner of the award at the time.
She wrote "Speak Now" (2010) entirely by herself, a fact she often cites as an answer to critics who doubted her songwriting. With "Red" (2012) she began mixing country with rock and electronic pop. "We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together" became her first No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100.

Queen of Pop (2014–2019)
With "1989" (2014), Swift fully moved to pop. The album produced "Shake It Off," "Blank Space" and "Bad Blood," all of which reached No. 1 on the Hot 100, and it won Album of the Year in 2016, making her the first woman to win the award twice as a lead artist. In May 2026 the Library of Congress added "1989" to the National Recording Registry, the first time a Swift recording was selected for the archive.
Intense media scrutiny shaped the darker, electronic "Reputation" (2017), led by "Look What You Made Me Do." In 2018 she left Big Machine and signed with Republic Records and Universal Music Group, under a deal that gave her ownership of the master recordings she would make from then on. "Lover" (2019) followed, with the singles "ME!" and "You Need to Calm Down."
The Battle Over Her Masters
In 2019 Scooter Braun's Ithaca Holdings acquired Big Machine, including the master recordings of Swift's first six albums. Braun later sold the catalog to the investment firm Shamrock Capital. Swift responded by re-recording her early work, releasing "Fearless (Taylor's Version)" and "Red (Taylor's Version)" in 2021, and "Speak Now (Taylor's Version)" and "1989 (Taylor's Version)" in 2023. The ten-minute version of "All Too Well" from the "Red" re-recording became the longest song ever to top the Hot 100.
On May 30, 2025, Swift announced in a letter to fans that she had bought the original masters of all six albums from Shamrock, together with the related music videos, concert films, artwork and unreleased songs. The price was not disclosed.
Folklore, Midnights and the Eras Tour (2020–2024)
During the pandemic she surprised fans with two indie-folk albums made largely with Aaron Dessner of The National: "Folklore" (July 2020) and "Evermore" (December 2020). "Folklore" won Album of the Year in 2021. "Midnights" (2022) returned to synth-pop and produced "Anti-Hero," and it gave Swift a record fourth Album of the Year Grammy in 2024. "The Tortured Poets Department" (April 2024) became the first album to pass one billion Spotify streams in a single week and was the best-selling album worldwide in 2024.
The Eras Tour began in Glendale, Arizona, in March 2023 and ran until December 2024, spanning five continents and 149 shows, each about three and a half hours long. Pollstar estimated its total gross at about $2.2 billion, nearly double the next-biggest tour at the time. The concert film "Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour" (2023) became the highest-grossing concert film ever. In August 2024 her three concerts in Vienna were canceled after Austrian authorities arrested suspects accused of planning a terrorist attack.

The Life of a Showgirl and 2026
On October 3, 2025, Swift released her twelfth studio album, "The Life of a Showgirl," produced with Max Martin and Shellback. It sold 4.002 million equivalent album units in its first week in the US, according to Luminate, breaking the modern-era record held by Adele's "25," and it became her 15th No. 1 album on the Billboard 200. The singles "The Fate of Ophelia" and "Opalite" both topped the Hot 100.
In June 2026 she wrote and recorded "I Knew It, I Knew You" for the Pixar film "Toy Story 5." It debuted at No. 1 on the Hot 100, the first Pixar song ever to top the chart and her 15th Hot 100 No. 1. That same month she was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame as one of the youngest honorees in its history. On September 25, 2026, she released an expanded edition, "The Life of a Showgirl: The Encore," with four new songs, including the single "Patient Zero."

Husband: Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce
Swift began dating Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce in the summer of 2023, after Kelce said on his podcast that he had tried to give her a friendship bracelet with his phone number at one of her concerts. Her appearances at Chiefs games, including Super Bowl LVIII in February 2024, drew huge television audiences. The couple announced their engagement on Instagram in August 2025.
They married on July 3, 2026, in New York City. According to Rolling Stone, the ceremony took place at Madison Square Garden and was officiated by Adam Sandler; her brother Austin served as her "man of honor" and Jason Kelce was Travis's best man. Before Kelce, Swift was in a six-year relationship with the British actor Joe Alwyn, which ended in 2023. She does not have children.
Height, Fans and Public Image
Swift is widely reported to be about 5 feet 10 inches (178 cm) tall, which makes her one of the taller female stars in pop. Her fans are known as "Swifties," a community famous for decoding "Easter eggs" hidden in her lyrics, music videos and social media posts. Her official merchandise is sold through her own online store and at concerts. Swift has also become a significant voice on artists' rights, from her 2014 decision to pull her music from Spotify to her 2015 letter that persuaded Apple Music to pay artists during free trials, and most visibly through the re-recording project.
