Why it was recalled

The problem: an injury risk.

NHTSA's defect summary: “Hyundai Motor America (Hyundai) is recalling certain 2026 Ioniq 9 vehicles equipped with a Limited, Calligraphy, or Calligraphy Design trim package. The second-row power seats may fail to detect a person. As a result, the seats may continue to move after contacting a person during powered seat functions, such as automatic power fold-and-stow.”

The consequence, according to NHTSA: “A person, especially a child, may become trapped by a rear powered seat, increasing the risk of injury.”

What to do

NHTSA: “Owners are advised to exercise caution when operating the second-row power seat functions until the repair is performed. Children are advised not to be in the rear seats or near the rear seating area during power-folding operation. The seat software will be inspected and updated over-the-air (OTA) or by a dealer, as necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed October 1, 2026. Owners may contact Hyundai customer service at 1-855-371-9460. Hyundai's number for this recall is 307. Vehicle Identification Numbers (VINs) involved in this recall became searchable on NHTSA.gov on September 12, 2026.”

Enter your 17-character vehicle identification number (VIN) at nhtsa.gov/recalls or on the manufacturer's site to see whether your vehicle is included. Safety recall repairs are free at an authorized dealer, even if the vehicle is used or out of warranty.
