Happy Easter Wishes

95 wishes here and 140 more in 2 parts · updated October 14, 2026

Easter is one of the few holidays that speaks two languages at once. For Christians it is the most important day of the year, the celebration of Christ's resurrection. For almost everyone it is also the first real holiday of spring: sunrise services and egg hunts, a ham in the oven, kids in new shoes, and a basket that somehow has more jelly beans in it than anyone remembers buying.

The Easter wishes below are written for both. You will find warm messages for family around the table, light ones for friends, blessed ones for people of faith, notes for loved ones who are celebrating far away, and simple, sweet lines for kids and grandkids. Type a name to personalize any message, copy it into a text or card, or turn it into an Easter card in one click.

How to write an Easter message that feels personal

A good Easter wish does not have to be long. Most of the messages people actually remember have three small parts:

  1. A greeting with a name. "Dear Aunt Linda," "Hey Sam," "To the whole Garcia crew." A name at the top tells the reader this was written for them, not forwarded to fifty people.
  2. One thought about the day. Choose the meaning that fits the person: the resurrection and new life for someone of faith, spring and fresh starts for anyone, family and the shared table for relatives.
  3. One specific wish. Think about what this person is actually facing this spring: a new baby, a move, a recovery, a first Easter without someone. A wish that fits their real life lands better than a list of good things.

Example

"Dear Grandma, the kids still talk about the egg hunt in your backyard last year, especially the egg we found in July. Happy Easter! We hope your knee is feeling stronger and that we can bring brunch to you next weekend." A shared memory, the holiday, and a wish tied to her life, all in three sentences.

Religious or not? How to choose the tone

Easter is a sacred day for many people, so the safest approach is to match the wording to the person you are writing to.

  • For people of faith (and for your church family, pastor or Sunday school teacher), mention the risen Christ, blessings, grace or prayer. "He is risen" is a traditional greeting, and many Christians answer "He is risen indeed."
  • For friends and coworkers whose beliefs you do not know, focus on spring, renewal, family and good food. "Happy Easter" itself is fine for nearly everyone who celebrates.
  • For people who do not celebrate Easter, a cheerful "Happy spring" or "Enjoy the long weekend" is friendly without assuming anything.
  • For kids, keep it simple and fun: the Easter Bunny, egg hunts, chocolate and how proud you are of them.

When to send Easter wishes

Easter is a movable holiday. In Western churches it falls on the first Sunday after the first full moon of spring, so it can land anywhere from March 22 to April 25. Many Orthodox Christians celebrate on a different Sunday, often a week or more later, so check the date if you are writing to an Orthodox friend.

How you send itWhenTip
Mailed cardMail it about a week before EasterCards should arrive by Saturday; Holy Week is a busy time for many families
Text or messageEaster morning, after church or before brunchA short wish plus a photo of the kids or the table goes a long way
Phone or video callEaster afternoonBest for grandparents and family who live far away
Work emailThe Thursday or Friday before EasterKeep it warm but neutral, and wish people a restful long weekend

Ideas to make your wish more personal

  • Mention a family tradition: dyeing eggs at the kitchen table, Grandpa's annual egg-hunt clues, the lamb cake nobody is allowed to cut early.
  • Tie it to their spring: a new garden, a graduation coming up, a baby's first Easter, the first warm weekend after a long winter.
  • Add an invitation: "Save me a seat at brunch" or "Let's hunt eggs in the park on Saturday" turns a wish into a plan.
  • Tuck the message into the basket: a handwritten note in an Easter basket is often kept longer than the candy lasts.

Mistakes to avoid

  • Forwarding a chain message. If you do send a ready-made wish, add one sentence of your own.
  • Assuming everyone is religious, or that no one is. When in doubt, a warm, neutral wish is always welcome.
  • Joking about Lent sacrifices or church attendance with someone you do not know well. Faith is personal; tease only the people who will laugh with you.
  • Forgetting people who are alone. Easter is a family holiday, and a short message to a widowed neighbor or a friend far from home can mean more than any card you send to someone with a full table.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

What is a good Easter message?

A good Easter message is short, warm and personal: a greeting with the person's name, one thought about Easter (new life, spring, family or faith), and one wish that fits their life right now. For example: "Happy Easter, Mike! I hope the sun comes out for the egg hunt and the kids leave you at least one chocolate bunny."

What do you say on Easter Sunday?

The most common greeting is simply "Happy Easter." Many Christians also use the traditional greeting "He is risen," answered with "He is risen indeed." "Have a blessed Easter" works well for people of faith, and "Enjoy the long weekend" is a friendly option at work.

How do you wish someone a happy Easter if you don't know whether they are religious?

Keep the focus on spring, family and rest: "Happy Easter! Wishing you a sunny weekend, a good brunch and time with the people you love." It is warm without assuming anything about their beliefs.

Is it "Happy Easter" or "Blessed Easter"?

Both are correct. "Happy Easter" is universal and works for anyone who celebrates. "Blessed Easter" or "Have a blessed Easter" has a more religious tone and is a lovely choice for family, friends from church and anyone for whom Easter is a holy day.

When should I send Easter cards?

Mail cards about a week before Easter Sunday so they arrive by Saturday. Texts and calls are best on Easter morning or afternoon. Work emails are usually sent on the Thursday or Friday before the holiday weekend.

What do you write to someone celebrating Easter alone?

Let them know they are remembered and, if you can, make a plan: "Thinking of you this Easter and sending you a little sunshine. I'm calling after lunch, so put the kettle on." A specific promise of a call or visit means more than a general wish.

What is a cute Easter message for kids?

Kids love messages about the Easter Bunny, egg hunts and treats. Try: "The Easter Bunny told me you were one of the best egg finders on his list this year. Happy Easter, sweetheart, and save one jelly bean for me!"
