Eid Mubarak Messages

77 wishes · updated October 14, 2026

Whether you're celebrating with your own family or want to greet Muslim friends, neighbors, and coworkers, a few sincere words make Eid feel even more special. "Eid Mubarak" ("blessed Eid") is the greeting everyone knows, and a personal line after it is what people remember.

This page covers both Eids. Eid al-Fitr, which marks the end of Ramadan, is expected on or around Wednesday, March 10, 2027. Eid al-Adha, the Festival of Sacrifice, which falls during the Hajj pilgrimage, is expected around Sunday, May 16, 2027. Both dates are tentative: the Islamic calendar is lunar, and many communities confirm the day only after the new moon is sighted, so some families may celebrate a day earlier or later.

Below you'll find Eid wishes for family, friends, and coworkers, messages written specifically for Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha, traditional Arabic greetings with their meanings, and short texts.

The two Eids

Eid al-Fitr ("festival of breaking the fast") comes right after Ramadan, the month of fasting from dawn to sunset. The day starts with a special Eid prayer, and before it families give zakat al-fitr, a small charity so that everyone can celebrate. Then come visits, new clothes, big meals, sweets, and gifts of money for kids, often called Eidi.

Eid al-Adha ("festival of the sacrifice") falls on the 10th day of the month of Dhul Hijjah, during the Hajj pilgrimage to Mecca. It honors the Prophet Ibrahim's (Abraham's) willingness to sacrifice his son at God's command, and God's provision of a ram in his place. Families who can afford it sacrifice an animal and share the meat with relatives, neighbors, and people in need. The celebration usually lasts several days.

Greetings and what they mean

GreetingMeaning
Eid Mubarak"Blessed Eid," used for both holidays
Eid Saeed"Happy Eid"
Taqabbal Allahu minna wa minkum"May Allah accept it from us and from you," meaning our fasting, prayers, and good deeds
Kul 'am wa antum bikhairRoughly "may you be well every year"
Khair MubarakA common reply, especially in South Asian communities: "blessings to you too"
Hajj Mabrur"May your Hajj be accepted," said to people returning from the pilgrimage

If you're not Muslim, "Eid Mubarak" or "Happy Eid" is all you need. Use the longer phrases only if you're comfortable with them.

How to write your own Eid wishes

  • Greeting: "Eid Mubarak," "Happy Eid," or the person's name.
  • Wish: peace, joy, accepted prayers, time with family.
  • Connection: the open house they host, the sweets they bring to work, missing them if you're far apart.
  • Sign-off: "With love," "Warmly," or just your name.

For a friend: "Eid Mubarak, Sara! I hope your day is full of good food and your whole family under one roof. Can't wait to hear about it next week. Love, Jess."

For a coworker: "Eid Mubarak, Ahmed. Wishing you and your family a joyful holiday after a long month of fasting. Enjoy the day off. Best, the marketing team."

Timing

Because the exact day often depends on the moon sighting, it's fine to send messages the evening before the expected date or on Eid morning. In the US, some mosques and organizations follow a calculated calendar announced weeks ahead, while others wait for a local or regional sighting, so two families in the same town may celebrate on different days. Mail cards so they arrive a few days before the predicted date (around March 10 or May 16 in 2027). Many Muslims take the day off for Eid, so don't expect a quick reply that day.

What to avoid

  • Mixing up the Eids. Fasting references belong to Eid al-Fitr, not Eid al-Adha.
  • Alcohol and party jokes. Eid is a religious holiday; keep humor about food, family, and outfits.
  • Arabic prayers you're unsure of. A sincere English message beats a misspelled phrase.
  • "Happy Ramadan" on Eid. Ramadan is the fasting month (people say "Ramadan Mubarak" or "Ramadan Kareem" during it); Eid is the celebration afterward.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

What is the proper way to wish someone a happy Eid?

Say "Eid Mubarak," which means "blessed Eid." You can also say "Eid Saeed" ("happy Eid") or simply "Happy Eid" in English.

When is Eid in 2027?

Eid al-Fitr is expected on or around Wednesday, March 10, 2027, and Eid al-Adha around Sunday, May 16, 2027. Both dates are tentative and depend on the moon sighting, so some communities may celebrate a day earlier or later.

Can non-Muslims send Eid Mubarak messages?

Yes. Muslim friends, neighbors, and colleagues generally appreciate it. A simple "Eid Mubarak" or "Happy Eid" is respectful and warm.

Do you use the same Eid wishes for both holidays?

"Eid Mubarak" works for both. Tailor the rest: mention Ramadan and fasting for Eid al-Fitr, and sacrifice, sharing, or Hajj for Eid al-Adha.

How do you reply to Eid Mubarak?

Reply "Eid Mubarak to you too" or "Khair Mubarak," a common response in South Asian communities. Some people answer "Taqabbal Allahu minna wa minkum," "may Allah accept it from us and from you."

When should I send Eid al-Fitr wishes?

Send them the evening before or on the morning of Eid. Since the date depends on the moon sighting, the night the end of Ramadan is announced is ideal.

Is it appropriate to give gifts with Eid al-Adha wishes?

Yes. Money for children, often called Eidi, sweets, and small gifts are common on both Eids. A box of dates or pastries with a card is a thoughtful choice for neighbors and coworkers.
